Your writing on XOJane inspired me to submit my own XOJane piece (thankful everyday that those are scrubbed from the internet), which led to me becoming a writer, going to grad school and launching a career in PR. So, thank you for the inspiration :)
Saw your above mentioned photographer boyfriend at Mohawk in east Austin during sxsw that year and wanted to say 'hello' but had no idea how to go about it. "Hey! I love your girlfriend's writing and recognize you from the internet..."
So we are work friends then. You should have said hi! He was on tour in Puerto Rico with a band one time and someone came up, who they thought was a fan of the band, but they just wanted to tell Brayden that they recognized him from my articles lol. Also he's a sweetie pie and fun time if you ever run into him again.
I keep thinking we’ll hit the limit on “increasingly online lives,” but Substack feels like the snake is closer to eating my preteen head - xanga and tumblr - and for that I am thankful.
You’ve managed to navigate every platform with grace and humility. I am excited to add your work to my feed, and will continue to support your writing wherever it takes you!
Hey Annie, I first came across your writing in XOJane. My name’s Sery and I’m writing to you from Oakland, California. While I’ve never worked in Beauty, I too have been at a high-growth startup. I write, too, mostly about music. My fun fact: I’m often asked if I do any acting because of my exaggerated expressions. But no, it’s probably because I grew up going to Deaf summer camps (I’m hearing, siblings are deaf). Expressions in ASL are essential for tone. So I often do have to mind my tone.
Hi! I know your work from ITG but I am a huge Eyewitness Beauty fan and listen as soon as it uploads to my queue. So glad you and Nick are back to recording regularly.
Hello Annie I am Khloe and I am brand new to you! Thanks to Emily’s Feed Me link for bringing me here. My fun fact is that I walk from the top of Manhattan to the bottom of it every year on my birthday. No one is allowed to interrupt me or hang out with me that day because I like to use it as a reset.
Hi Khloe! Ok, we have a blank slate, so I'll try to make a good impression. Were you inspired by Broad City?? Didn't they do a marathon day of walking the city in an episode? Happy birthday.
They totally did!! It’s where I got the idea and it was a good way to fill my day back when I didn’t know anybody in the city! (Moved here for a job two weeks before my birthday) I am enjoying the impression so far and I hope to return the favor.
Hi Annie! I followed you at Glossier while I was also the brand director at a DTC company - we chatted on IG about your plan to write fiction — I'm also a writer and just finished my novel in Feb, now in the querying process/starting something new/editing a big old pile of words right along with you. Also I live in CDMX hi.
Annie, I am so excited to keep reading. I first started reading you on XoJane when I was in high school and kept up as you moved to Into the Gloss, Glossier, and Eyewitness Beauty. You have impeccable taste and it is a pleasure to learn from you.
I work at a startup in a catch-all operations role, but I was an English major and I am trying to find ways to keep writing. A fun fact: I just made some poached quince and learned from the John Pawson cookbook that quince (not apple!) may have been the forbidden fruit that expelled us from Eden.
been a huge fan since glossier days, i love your copy, your hot takes and opinions, and your style/ability to truly forge your own taste and trends. i've listened to every episode of eyewitness news, which i love so much. just very into things you also seem into and share about: writing, beauty, movies, creating, curating, creative thinking. would read anything you write, always love your take on things and fearless style of sharing.
me: kendall, writer also but struggle with perfectionism, started out at a toxic media startup (lol) then advertising now a small SAAS startup. fun fact: between the advertising nightmare and current chill job, i worked two years managing a small french bakery. best time of my life.
Hi Annie! I used to read ITG and sometimes I creeped on your Tumblr back in the day—one of my favorite distractions from work was checking to see if you'd posted anything—and I'm an EWB reader. I love your fresh, unfussy perspectives and I've missed your writing. I have no stake in the beauty world other than I found Glossier's evolution utterly riveting from its inception and your approach to marketing/branding sucked me right in. It was very aspirational for a Tennessee girl transplanted to a big city. I wanted to feel like I was in the know and at the time, I did. Not so much these days! Lol! Anyway, looking forward to your opinions becoming my own.
Hi Annie! I'm Gabbie, 23-year-old former Glossier (retail) employee. Been following you since the ITG days and an avid fan of Eye Witness Beauty. I find I spend a lot of time on this platform so I'm really excited that your opinions will be on here now too!
Love the long form, so glad you’re on my Substack subscription list! Been following along since ITG days, and love EWB. Your recommendations always hit for me, and the dry sarcastic humor makes you feel like a real (internet) pal. Chiming in from Seattle, I think you’d like it here!
Hi Alexandra! I recognize your name. Thanks for reading. I do love Seattle. I would visit my ex there often in my early 20s. I remember the first Totokaelo boutique and the great vintage shopping, and how green the city is.
Annie hive strong.
Gia I’m your biggest fan!!
Babe you’re the blueprint. Mutual.

Now this is the stuff I’m talking about. Hi Sery, glad you’re here ❤️

Nice to meet you again--please keep me updated on how it goes! Totally new world for me.
Heya. Eyewitness Reader. Beauty peeping Tom.

Hi Ruci! Thanks for enduring all these years :)
This is a gold star fun fact. Makes you wonder what other details they got wrong...
Your xoJane nail art with the eyelashes and carved lips still haunts me (in the most positive way) to this day!
Yes I don't know how useful many of those early articles were...

Writing and managing a small french bakery sound like a dream. Thanks for your note <3

Hello! Loved your writing and photography way back at XO- always a fresh and creative take. Looking forward to more deep dives soon.
