Ok potentially dumb question: when you talk about the Armani eyeshadow and other discontinued stuff… are we all just using things past their expiration dates? I work in body care/skin care and expiration dates are kind of the bane of my existence… I know often times if we pay to retest something we can actually push the exp date of the batch back, but we don’t often do it because it’s expensive as hell. After your Armani anecdote I’m wondering if I’m being super wasteful throwing shit away that is so long past its exp…
As with most food, I will use smell, sight, change in texture as indicators of spoiled product instead of the date. Though there are other reasons I will consider a cosmetic “bad”—if it’s so old that the packaging is deteriorating, if it hasn’t been stored in cool, dark, dry conditions (I keep most excess products sealed in my refrigerator). If it has fragile actives like vitamin c and it’s meant to be a potent formula, I usually don’t hold onto those unless they’re sealed and I can tell they haven’t been exposed to oxygen.
The Armani shadow formulas have always been drier than VB’s, though over time they have become bone dry. When it mixes with the oil from my skin it creates that really nice fake gloss look, and stays in place. So actually I am not bothered by the slight change.
Dont hate this as well! Also, glad you finally gave VB beauty a try : )
Love the beauty recs! I’m also a fan of your work at previous compagnies (and your writing) so keep it all coming :)
Where is this dress from? Love.

Just to let you know, Substack lets you send video clips in your newsletters, so you can go for it next time!
But is it sent as an attachment or does it play in your email browser inline with the text? 🙏🏼
It plays right there in the email , just as you have laid it out
Thank you Helen!
